Farmland
For Lease near Seguin
The property that
I am hoping to lease to be farmed organically is located southeast
of Seguin, about 7 miles from Seguin on FM 1117. It consists
of approx. 66 acres of farmland and approx. 80 acres of part
pastureland and part pastureland/pecan bottom land.
The farmland will
have been "resting" for two years by the end of this year. The
only thing that has been done is to have the "volunteer" growth
cut and baled once each year. I have not leased the land for
two years. So it should be organically certifiable in one more
year. I would be willing to lease all or part of the land. There
is a well at the house (the house is currently leased out),
but I am not sure if that would be an adequate water source
for the land. An additional well would be negotiable. The land
has more recently been used to raise hay and wheat; milo and
corn were raised on it years ago, and cotton was raised on it
for a few years many, many years ago. The land is nice level
dark land (not sandy).
The pasture land
has not been leased for 3 years, so it would probably be certifiable
at the end of this year. Cattle or possibly other animals could
be raised on it.
There are approx.
340 native and 58 improved pecan trees that are currently being
leased by a pecan company that uses conventional methods, however
I would like for these trees to be farmed organically. If someone
is interested in leasing the trees for organic production, I
can terminate the present lease after the pecans have been harvested
this year.
